Policy, planning, projects
Our clients span sectors including; housing and leisure development, renewable energy, farm diversification, land and estate management, road, rail and other infrastructure projects, and local and central government departments. We apply our science-based approach to every project, acting independently and in line with best practice and legal guidelines from the regulatory authorities; Natural England, DEFRA, The Environment Agency, and CIEEM, our professional body. Baker Consultants is a CIEEM Registered Practice and is involved in policy and legislative consultation on the application of wildlife law and its associated implications.
With a team focussed on innovation we challenge perceived wisdom. Over the years we have developed improved survey techniques using new technology to create more scientifically robust practices. We conduct research then share those skills amongst the profession. Our research into the use of bioacoustics for remote monitoring has changed how bats and birds are surveyed for and ensured that under scrutiny at public inquiry the best possible data is available for decision making.
Ecology is not all about wildlife, but wildlife should benefit. That’s what Biodiversity Net Gain is all about. The legal processes around development planning, Habitats Regulations Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Local Plan Reviews and site designations are all designed to ensure that every development not only minimises impacts on wildlife and their habitats but also delivers on the requirement for net GAIN. A real understanding of these processes, experience of standing as an expert witness and the longevity in the industry to know the depth of knowledge required to properly meet these objectives is what you will find at Baker Consultants.
