BREAKING: The Environment Bill Has Been Granted Royal Assent

The long-awaited Environment Bill was finally granted Royal Assent and became enshrined in law on Tuesday 9 November after more than two years since it was first introduced.

Hailed as a “momentous day” by Environment Minister Rebecca Pow, the passing of this legislation yesterday now means it is a legal requirement for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) to be incorporated into land development and planning, ensuring developments demonstrate a 10% increase in biodiversity. Lord Goldsmith’s opening remarks at the House of Lords commented that this was “the world’s best chance to reach agreement on the action needed to avert catastrophic climate change and support those already experiencing its effects.”
