Drawn by the opportunity to broaden her knowledge and the appeal of a four-day working week, Sky quickly became an integral part of the team. She holds GCN and Dormouse licences and is an active member of the Nottinghamshire Dormouse Group. Now, just over a year into her role, Skye reflects on her experiences and looks ahead to the year to come.
“Over the last 12 months, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the team and diving straight in with the management of multiple development projects, as well as supporting the team with delivering Phase 2 survey work across the country. This year has taken me from Newcastle to the New Forest, and it’s been fantastic to work alongside such a knowledgeable and committed team. Being part of a smaller team means there are plenty of opportunities to get out on site, both independently and alongside more senior members of the team. I’be had some memorable wildlife encounters this year, including sighting of grass snakes, little owls, barn owls and even orchids! The four-day week has also been a huge benefits, helping me to maintain a healthy work-life balance, especially during the busy summer months.”
“I’ve also had the chance to shadow colleagues and take part in a wide range of internal and external training. I’m currently working on the Certificate of Bat Acoustics Analysis run by Batability, which is helping me fill a long-standing knowledge gap. I love being part of a team that actively encourages learning and staying up-to-date with industry developments. Thanks to the support here, I’ve already met by CPD requirements for CIEEM for 2025, and I’m excited about the events and opportunities the next year will bring.”
