Rae Smith joined Baker Consultants on the 14 February, taking the first step in her career. She was an exceptional candidate and we are really looking forward to getting her involved in our diverse range of projects.
She will be supporting the existing team on their survey and assessment work, all while learning about the vast array of topics and skills that are needed to succeed in a consultancy environment.
Since graduating in 2020 with a First in her Zoology Masters from the University of Sheffield, Rae has volunteered with several local wildlife groups, gaining experience in bat activity and hibernation surveys. She also had the opportunity to gain valuable experience by getting involved with breeding bird, water vole, and woodland condition surveys.
In her first few weeks with Baker Consultants, she has been supporting the team with UKHAB surveys, as well as producing habitat maps to inform our Biodiversity Net Gain assessments. Her previous role as a GIS Technician for Cyient has given her an excellent skill-set which she is using to support the varied habitat and species mapping work that underpins most of our day-to-day project work.
In her first season with us, she will focus on getting as much time in the field as possible so she can learn about the various survey techniques, assessment methods and vital species identification skills that underpin all our work. Her training will be tailored to give her a strong technical foundation, learning from our in-house team of experts, so that she can help us deliver the highest quality of service for our clients.
