Baker Consultants

Principal ecologist / Regional manager vacancy

We're looking for a Principal Ecologist to join the Baker Consultants team.

You know if you’re looking for a change and a new challenge, and you’ll know enough about the industry to know if you’d like to join our team.

Principal ecologist/Regional manager Southern Region  (£40k – £55k)

Effectively your own boss – with a salary and profit share

Do you have:

  • Ecology and business excellence?
  • Sharp commercial awareness and drive?
  • Over 10-15 years experience in consultancy?

Baker Consultants Ltd is driven by a thirst for new techniques to make our profession better, an obsession with the intricacies of nature conservation law, planning policy and best practice and how all these aspects affect our clients. We are a small highly effective team, used to remote working and delivering robust commercial advice at all points of a project’s timeline. We don’t just do ecological surveys, we see any project through the entire process through public inquiries if necessary and onto the construction phase.

Our head office is in Derbyshire, but even before Covid many of our team worked remotely. The team meets regularly (whether face to face or online) to deliver projects, exchange ideas, provide support and mentoring.  Having successfully recruited and mentored new team members during lock-down we know we can invest our culture in the right candidate whatever your geography.

A good deal of our workload is in Southern England and we have decided that having a presence within the region will assist us in delivering that work load and help in expanding the business to new clients.

You may be working in a large consultancy or local authority and seeking the freedom to expand your horizons or consolidate an interest which is currently untapped, or a senior consultant with an established client base that would like to be part of a team again. We are open to new ideas, new technology, new ways of working and would welcome your input.

The right candidate must have a confident approach to client management and new business, the ability to manage and direct projects and handle complex client relationships. You will have the sensitivity to work with less experienced team members, mentoring and showing leadership and the desire to roll your sleeves up and conduct habitat and species surveys when necessary.

You know if you’re looking for a change and a new challenge, and you’ll know enough about the industry to know if you’d like to join our team.

We’ve just won two categories at the CIEEM awards, but don’t let that put you off! Whether you’re into research or passionate about survey technique, have a species specialism or just love the varied nature of the work, get in touch.
