Farmers, estate managers and wine growers are all facing challenges with climate change, crop pests and demanding regulations, but it’s clear that there are opportunities from BNG and collaborative working to learn from each other at events like this.
Henry Dimbleby, co-author of the National Food Strategy, and Andy Kato from Wildfarmed, hosted a session at Groundswell on ‘Transforming the Food Landscape at Scale’ to a packed Big Top. Their session raised lots of interesting questions about food security and the relevance of regenerative practices to mainstream farmers and food producers. Our own Communications Director might have got in with a sneaky leading question in the Q&A session. Take a look at the recording of the session here (skip to 38 mins).
Archie Ruggles-Brice from Spains Hall Estate spoke about how he has pioneered the sale of BNG units to create income from their re-wilding programme. We also attended a session with Regenerative Viticulture Foundation, WineGB and NIAB, about addressing the challenges of addressing the negative practices of growing grapes and what research is needed to help inform and support growers with a move towards more regenerative practices.
The event forged partnerships with other technology providers, deepened our relationship with farming cooperatives such as First Milk and Yeo Valley Farms, and explored how ecoacoustics can help with biodiversity monitoring at vineyards, farming estates, and so on.
