This prestigious honour recognises his outstanding contributions to the field of ecology over the course of his 30-year career. In elevating Carlos to being a Fellow, CIEEM recognised the many significant contributions to the profession Carlos has made over the years.
One of Carlos’ contributions to the field has been his role as an educator, having taught on the BSc Biological Sciences (Environmental Biology) programme at Nottingham Trent University for ten years. Carlos’ commitment to teaching has helped shape the minds of aspiring ecologists, promoting ecological professionalism both to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In addition to his educational endeavours, Carlos has been at the forefront of ground-breaking research in the field of ecoacoustics. In collaboration with colleagues from Baker Consultants and scientists from the University of Warwick, Carlos is currently undertaking a two-year DEFRA-funded research project investigating the feasibility of using ecoacoustics for monitoring soil health. Carlos also co-led the UKAN+ funded publication of the Good Practice Guidelines for Long-Term Ecoacoustic Monitoring in the UK, contributing to the development of quality standards.
CIEEM’s Governing Board agreed with the Fellowship Review Panel that “Through his work as a highly respected Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, Dr. Abrahams has influenced the education of environmental scientists, promoting professionalism and providing opportunities for first-hand experience. He has also influenced a wider audience through the conferences, webinars and training events to which he has contributed. All of this is evidence of a substantial contribution to, and substantial experience in, environmental science.”
