Michael joins us from the west-country as an Ecologist with special interests in both insects and birds. He holds an MSc in Research Entomology from University of Reading, and is also a keen ornithologist. As a long-time volunteer bird surveyor for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), Michael holds a bird ringing permit and brings strong field skills in avian monitoring.
Although Michael earned a degree in Environmental Biology back in 1998, his career initially took him into health research. He spent two decades in the sector, including 19 years at the University of Bristol, where he worked on a clinical trial focused on prostate cancer treatment.
Michael says: “”With the funding for the research project I was working on coming to an end, I realised I had the opportunity to make a career change and retrain as an ecologist. I am looking forward to using my entomology skills professionally and learning how Baker Consultants integrates traditional bird survey methods with bioacoustics technology.” He’s excited to be involved with Baker’s invertebrate surveying services, an area of expertise that sets the company apart from many other consultancies. “Not many consultancies offer invertebrate surveying, and it’s an exciting opportunity to use and expand my skills in this important ecological area,” he adds.
Kelly Clark Associate Director at Baker Consultants said: “I’m looking forward to getting to know Michael and the opportunities he’ll bring to the team here. He has already fitted in so well, and we are very much making use of his skills as an excellent birder and invertebrate specialist as there’s plenty of ongoing work to get stuck into.”
