Baker Consultants

During a year of significant growth, November is set to be another busy month at Baker Consultants

2021 has been a briskly paced year that has seen us continue to go from strength to strength. There’s no sign of slowing down, with November set to be another busy month for the team.

Ahead of everything that’s in store for us this month, we’ve updated our website to provide a more streamlined experience when finding out more information on the various expertise we offer as ecology consultants, upcoming public events, conferences and show the team will be participating in, as well as insights into each of our team members and their highly honed specialisms.

At Baker Consultants we provide ecology consultancy services to clients in all sectors as they move through the various phases of the planning process, to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved for all parties. From invertebrate and bioacoustics specialists to protected species license holders, our team is highly experienced in this sector and the team go above and beyond to meet the needs of our ever-growing client base.

Andrew Baker, Managing Director, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ecological and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and is also an acknowledged expert in the application of nature conservation law, an area in which he is highly active through his work with the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA), as well as being a high-in-demand Expert Witness at public inquiries where he has a high success rate. Andrew will be leading a module for UKELA’s annual Introduction to Wildlife Course on Tuesday 9th November, where he will be running a session on species protection law.

You can also find Andrew at the Farm Business Innovation Show, where he will be running a seminar on Biodiversity Net Gain on Wednesday 10th November. If you’re interested in attending the show and want to hear what Andrew has to say at the seminar, you can book your free ticket here.

Joining the speaking circuit in November, Technical Director Carlos Abrahams, will be presenting to peers on his specialist subject of bioacoustics at the CIEEM Autumn Conference in Bristol, taking place 16-17 November.

Carlos is also speaking at the Developments in Monitoring Science | BOUsci21 conference which is to take place 24-25 November, which is being hosted by the British Ornithologists’ Union.

Carlos specialises in bioacoustics and developing innovative ways of monitoring species, and in 2020 published a peer-reviewed paper on techniques for monitoring migratory birds in the Elsevier Ecological Indicators journal.  He has also recently co-authored and published a paper on a draft protocol for rapid acoustic data collection in small water bodies. Carlos’ work earned Baker Consultants an innovation award in the CIEEM 2020 awards and he is often called upon to input into the work of peers.

Each of our team members bring their own specialisms to the company making for enviable in-house skills set that allows us to adapt to a wide range of projects. We’ve expanded the team this year with Dave Goddard – ‘Dragonfly Dave’ as many in the industry know him. Dave is an invertebrates specialist and has been carrying out professional terrestrial and aquatic invertebrate surveys for over 15 years. Dave has a wealth of knowledge that he has been developing since he first discovered his passion for invertebrates at the age of 10. His experience has proved to be invaluable to both the team and our clients since he joined us earlier this year.

We are also really pleased to announce the addition of Gavin Ward, who has joined us as Consultancy Director. Gavin is a widely respected ecologist with over 19 years’ experience, and he will be instrumental in helping us to expand our team further to meet the huge demands for our services that we have seen over the last few years.

The Baker Consultants team is highly experienced and we are passionate about what we do.
